Supporting Your Child’s NDIS Application

Thinking of applying for NDIS funding for your child?

During 2018, many of our Sprout families will begin registering for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) during its roll out in our catchment area. During this registration process, you will be required to complete formal paperwork and may need to provide supporting documentation as part of your application for funding.

We are currently experiencing a high volume of requests for assistance with completing sections of the NDIS paperwork and providing supportive documentation/reports.

We ask that if you require an Occupational Therapy report as part of your supporting documentation, you allow a minimum of 10 business days for the report to be completed. If you feel that you are not able to organise the necessary paperwork and supporting documentation by the NDIS application deadline you have received, you can request an extension or a second planning meeting with your NDIS planner.

Your child’s therapist is also able to help you prepare for your initial NDIS Planning Meeting by helping you identify specific functional goals. It is important that you are able to identify clear goals for your child as NDIS funding is allocated based on clear goals/targets for your child’s therapy.  It may be advisable to book an individual consult with your child’s OT either in person or via phone to ensure these goals are discussed and documented prior to your NDIS planning meeting.

Please be aware there are costs associated with requesting an OT report or goal planning session for your child’s NDIS application that are not covered by NDIS or DSS funding.  Contact us directly on 03 5975 9197 for pricing.

If you have specific questions about your child’s application for NDIS funding, please contact our Local Area Coordinator, The Brotherhood of St Laurence on 1300 275 638 or visit their website https://ndis.bsl.org.au/

Good luck everyone,

Krista Lenders and Hudson
