Introducing Clip ‘n Climb, Berwick!

One of our goals at Sprout is to improve the lives of families with children with special needs. One of core values is about connection – and this means not just with the families we work with, directly but also with our wider community. One of the best ways we can improve the lives of our families is to meet with organisations in our local Mornington Peninsula community and develop ways families with children with special needs can have more successful experiences with getting out and about.

During the July school holidays, I had the privilege of visiting Clip ‘n Climb in Berwick! As we walked through the doors, we felt as though we had been transported to a magical and colourful place full of adventure! Clip ‘n Climb Berwick offers three different play areas for the youngest climbers all the way through to the big kids! There are a range of vertical climbing challenges in the ‘Clip ‘n Climb’ arena and there is even a course 10 feet in the air for the more adventurous climbers! How could I forget to mention the Cheeky Monkey zone which is an indoor play area that features a ‘spider climb’ where the kids get to use their core muscles and problem solving skills to climb all the way to the top!

We met with Leanne from Clip ‘n Climb Berwick who has a passion for ensuring that every person who walks through the doors of the building is made to feel welcome and included regardless of their age or ability. Leanne is particularly aware of the sensory challenges that some children can face when they visit play centres and she has been very proactive about finding ways to make the Clip n Climb experience a pleasant one for these children. Clip n Climb Berwick offers ‘low-sensory’ sessions that include reducing the volume of music and turning off the bright lights within the centre to ensure that children with sensory challenges do not become overwhelmed, making it a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for these children and their families. Leanne is also aware that some children may be sensitive to touch so offers different options in regards to wearing a wristband within the centre as well as different methods to assist children to place their harness on so that they are ready for climbing.

Clip ‘n Climb Berwick is a fun and adventurous place that offers a truly unique experience to the children and their families that come along to visit! It is a friendly and welcoming space and we really do recommend that you give it a try on the next rainy day!

We have developed the following resources to assist to prepare your child for their visit and we recommend that you have a read through them and bring them along on the day as required:
